A critical component of the Halifax Regional Municipality's transportation infrastructure, the Lady Hammond Bridge links Halifax's north end to Dartmouth, Clayton Park, and Bedford. Bridge inspections carried out in 2017 recommended a range of repairs and rehabilitations of the bridge, including repair of structural concrete, replacement of elastomeric rubber bearings, and rehabilitation of expansion joints.
SHM Canada was engaged to carry out detailed inspection/testing of the bridge and to develop a rehabilitation design for the structure. In collaboration with subconsultants, we deployed innovative and cost-effective methods for concrete/materials testing and GPR studies. Our rehabilitation design incorporates creative and cost-effective solutions to maximize the structure's service life while ensuring the continued safe operation of the bridge during inspection and construction.
