Richibucto Wharf
In 2018 SHM Canada was engaged by Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) to design a new wharf structure to redevelop the Small Craft Harbour (SCH) facility at Richibucto, NB. This facility includes an operational fishing harbour and marina. The new wharf will replace the existing piled structure and cribwork structure, which are both at the end of their service lives, and will enhance the facility with additional berthage and a service area.

Val Comeau Wharf
The Small Craft Harbour at Val-Comeau, NB, is a busy Class B harbour with an offloading area. In 2018, SHM Canada was engaged by Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) to design the new wharf structure at Val-Comeau as the current structures have reached the end of their service lives. The purpose of this project is to construct a new wharf to replace the existing structures and ensure the continued safe operation of the facility. The existing wharf structure has two “pass-throughs” for ice, which will need to be maintained in the reconstruction. Design work is currently under progress.

Whitman’s Wharf Phase Two
Coastal studies commissioned by the Small Craft Harbour Branch of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO-SCH) indicated that transmission of wave energy through the stem of Whitman’s Wharf was causing significant agitation within the inner basin, affecting the fishing boats tied therein during storms. In 2018, SHM Canada was engaged by DFO-SCH to review existing information, explore available mitigation options, and prepare design drawings and specifications. The work included a diving inspection of the existing close-face piling installed on the recently completed Whitman’s Wharf Extension to determine its effectiveness. Preparation of a tender package, which incorporates appropriate mitigation measures for the stem, is currently underway.
